Baltimore-Washington Vote to Expand to Two Clubs
After 20 years as the Australian Rules football club serving the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, the Baltimore-Washington Eagles will expand into two separate clubs: the Baltimore Dockers and the DC Eagles.
Club members voted to support the creation of the two clubs during a week-long, online process from October 30 to November 3.
The club board decided earlier in the year to begin preparations for an expansion, with a binding members vote at season’s end.
Season 2017 saw a dramatic increase in the club’s recruitment, with Baltimore-Washington sending, for the first time, two men’s teams and 14 women to the National Tournament in San Diego. It also comes on the heels of a successful year for the Eagles, with a strong 8-2 win-loss record for its men’s senior team.
Baltimore-Washington will thus be closing on a high note, as it expands with the vision to further develop Australian Rules football in the two cities.
